ARTIST STATEMENT
There were limited areas where mothers could bring their babies and children. No parks and green areas were available, so many of the photos of my mother showed her carrying me. It was very challenging to live in the barracks as the sound traveled from one room to another due to the lack of insulation in the walls. My mother had to go to the central latrines to bathe the children and bring my brother to the toilet including at night. She must have also been concerned about the crying of an infant and not wanting to disturb other internees, during the night.
