ARTIST STATEMENT
This is the second version of a self-portrait. The first depicts my introversion, how I present myself to the world, black and white with literal ice on my face. The reinterpretation shows the color that is hidden from my personal facade. The blocks of color are created from cutting into the original portrait, allowing the back and front of the piece to merge. The patterns created mimic CV Dazzle makeup. This is a type of tactic that’s used to defeat facial recognition software. This new work comments on my growing concern over personal privacy and my conflict with being ‘present’ online.
