ARTIST STATEMENT
Malala, born in Pakistan, attended school with her brothers until a Taliban gunman boarded her school bus and shot her in the head for the offense of being a girl going to school. This act of violence prompted international outrage. Brought to England for medical care, she recovered following multiple surgeries and months of therapy. Malala, in turn, founded The Malala Fund, an organization dedicated to providing education and leadership opportunities for girls worldwide. For this, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
